Weekly themes - give feedback

Weekly themes are the core feature of Tookapic. If I am wrong, please correct me. Before the more detailed survey, we would like to ask you for feedback about weekly themes. (Of course, we know the principles like you don't create a theme of 'mountains' as not everybody lives near the mountains...)

Is the way Tookapic present a weekly theme clear and straightforward? What feature should we add to weekly themes, if any? What kind of suggestions do you have for the creation of the themes? Tell us more about examples - are they helpful? Are there too many of them or too few? Should the weekly themes be more abstract, symbolic or a bit more "physical"?

jazzie Since no active users answer yet I get involved in the discussion as a passive user.
I can only talk for myself and have to admit that the weekly themes were not really important for me. I often forgot to look at them or realized that something was the weekly theme only on thursday or so. For me it was never a key feature of Tookapic.
What is much more important are the people here and virtual friendships which sometimes became real. This is what I would like to get stronger again, and if anybody has ideas how interacting with each other could become even easier (one of the few ideas I like on Youpic is that you can give photos a feedback with stars in different categories. Does not really work however since users are too lazy and it is too complicated when visiting the page from a mobile phone)

120mr Personally I love weekly themes. I found it very interesting - I like seeing different aproaches to the theme, sometimes I like to challenge myself to do as many pics as possible.

WT is the feature and it only need one thing - participiants.

I like when there is a dozen or so examples from various people, definitely more than two users. And a decent description. A mix of literal and abstract WTs is great, you can't be bored or dispirited. And it would be nice to revisit some previous WTs.

But it is quite problematic to scroll thought all the themes - a few times the page started scrolling from the beginning. There are dates, but without a year, so it was confusing.

Magda Korzewska When I start my project back in 2015, Paweł made every week sum up of last WT. There was a short post in blog, showing nice examples from the past theme. For me as a beginner in Tookapic it was kind of motivation to take good photo to be featured, to get recognition in community. It was just a couple of time and Paweł stoped it. Also blog was suspended some time later. I remember also other good idea as voting for next WT in stories on IG. IMHO weekly themes are important part of project, can give motivation and inspiration when someone has a worse time. Sometimes it can be beginning of nice series. My advice keep it as it makes tookapic not just picture gallery but living community.

Teresa From my point of view, as i use tookapick to document my life, weekly themes are not the core of it. Although as someone mentioned very often when I have no idea of what to do I use weekly themes. This is why I like when weekly themes are connected with current season/situation. What I would like to have is more tips how can I work with it, e.g. some technical aspects. The examples are good but what motivates me is other users publishing week theme photos.

tigg Interested to see the replies here. Who, and how many. I have found them interesting to read but fear the level of response is a symptom of where we are. For me some themes really inspire me, but sometimes I look at it and think - that is not for me at all. Maybe those are the weeks where I should strive to engage a little more. However, I would be sorry to see them go. Is there any motivation to complete a theme week? There maybe a badge ….. but I have no idea. And does anyone look at the badges?

120mr I look at the badges :) It's nice to see what badge someone chose.

tigg I could not have told you what badges I had chosen. I note that Craig has the same badge as Ian but shows a streak of 44. I assume it must refer to an earlier streak. How perceptive of you.

agnieszka bladzik When the weekly themes were introduced I joined almost all weeks - like @Magda I found it motivating. I like it when the weekly theme challenges me in some way, eg. it's about the technique I'm not using, makes me look at things in an unusual way, etc. Recently it's more of a rescue idea when I really struggle with a daily photo.
Agree with @120mr on the good theme description and selection of examples.

120mr It's nice to revisit an old weekly theme. But this week the tag is identical as the tag from the last year. #theme-sky-slices shows pics form last May and from today at the same time tookapic.com/tags/theme-sky-sl... @JarekB Have you thought it over and found it to be the best possible solution? Finding your photo on the bottom of WT could be demotivating for few users who stayed... Or a few who have just started.

Natho I find it great to have weekly themes. I am a beginner so it is nice to see what others are making out of it.
I am not an early bird so could not do it last week.
As I started too recently I do not know much about the themes to be suggested. What about pastries, time, blue hour,. You have probably done all of them already. Something typical of your own town or country ... cheese.
I see beautiful pictures from.sime of you and would love to learn the techniques

120mr I like abstract themes and time seems great. But I would love a cheese WT!
