Hi! I have been using the same equipment since my initial DSLR purchase (Nikon d5100 with the kit 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and the Nikkor 55-200 f/4-5.6) I am looking to upgrade, and can't really afford a new body so am looking at lenses. I mostly shoot nature and wildlife outside, but a few friends have recently been asking about heads hots so I was thinking about looking for a 50mm 1.8 or even 1.4. What are your suggestions for my first extra lens to have, and suggestions on getting equipment on a budget. Do you trust refurbished or used lenses?

Bridget Braun The 50mm 1.8 is awesome, I use mine so much! I bought mine new and it wasn't very much. Around the $100CAD mark.

Robert de Bock That's a great option, better than the 50mm f/1.4 G AF-S even. (Faster focus, lighter, smaller and cheaper.)
I'd also look at Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G DX AF-S. Cheap as well and I prefer 35mm over 50mm on a APS-C sensor.

Jennifer Faye Thanks everyone!
