How do you get inspired?

Hi! So I'm kinda new here but realised something today that really got me thinking: I seem to be at my most creative and inspired when listening to music while taking photos/looking for THAT shot. And usually I end up listening to one song over and over - and over! - again. And now that I've told you that possibly weird and obsessional fact about me, I'd be very interested to know what any of you do when taking photos or to get inspired! I'm really looking forward to the responses to this one! :) Cheers! Emily P.S.: Todays song was up in the air by 30 Seconds to Mars btw. :D

anna00 Hi. I am a beginner and when I took a photo, I am looking for simplicity and beauty in things around me. Nowadays world is so freaking fast, everything is on yesterday, we get up, go to work, go to sleep, we don`t notice the beauty of reality around us. I decide to make this project to improve myself that beauty is in every single piece of this world and thats my inspiration when I take a photo. Cheers.Ana :)

M Sousa Its kind of weird to phrase but I don't get inspired... or I do but it's due to persistence or flow, the best way for me to do shoot something is if I have 2+ hours to do it, same with my work: I have to "sit down" and draw for 2+ hours.
My way to do stuff is to commit time to it and do it. Which makes it a nice struggle with this challenge because I don't have time for it, hence the quality isn't what I want to be. Right now I got about 20, max 60mins for photography so..sux
If I have the time I walk with the camera in hand, no strap, no bag... as I found out I missed a lot by thinking "ahhh its not that great to get it out of the bag" or "someone already shot this 1000times"

Guess I get inspired by committing to it?

Kevin Drum When I used to do a lot of surreal Photoshop stuff, I would often listen to the same song over and over to stay in a certain mood. I've never thought to do that while taking pictures, though. It's a good idea.

As for what I've been doing instead to get inspired... I wander around aimlessly and hope for the best. Oh, and I often turn out the lights and use a flashlight.

Emily Bell That's a really cool idea with the flashlight! I've always wanted to do that with some snow and/or ice, but to do it just generally never occurred to me! I'll be trying that when I get back home! :)

Mihir I suppose for this question you would get different answers from the same person at various different points of his/her life. Inspiration or/and ideas can come from anything, more important is how receptive are you?

I may be around the most inspirational people or a place, but if my mind is preoccupied or disturbed, nothing will inspire me. So its important to let go of dominant thoughts and hopefully one will break free the mental boundaries to be inspired by something.

Currently I tend to read a lot & walk around the city with a little camera whenever i can for inspiration.

Korey Moore Music and movies get my imagination going at times. Other then that I usually get inspired thinking of random things.

Bridget Braun Going for walks usually gets me inspired.

Michael McKee Working on a theme keeps me shooting when there's no inspiration. I know what at least some of my daily photos are going to be about, if not the exact subject.

Mark Heuston Learning new skills is my one way that I get inspired. I read, checkout what others are doing, practice again and again. But, the one thing that stands out in my mind is looking at light! The camera has helped me to see things that I never saw before. It has fine tuned my senses to look at our world differently and the best thing about this is I feel like there is so much to see!
