Fuji 23mm or 35mm?

Hey, I'm gonna buy new lens but I'm not 100 percent sure. I love street photography and portrait photography. I'm generally taking street photos but I also like portrait photography and want to start it.

So which lens you would prefer if you were using Fujifim X-T10? Any suggestion I will consider. Thanks for help.

23mm f/1.4 (actual focal lenght is 35mm because of crop)

35mm f/1.4(actual focal lenght is 53mm because of crop)

Marcin N Woźniak In street wider is better :)
I'm using 27mm f/2.8 because of its size (and it is a great lens, very sharp). I think little wider lens in some cases will be better, but with 27 I can easily hide my camera in a jacket pocket and walk away ;)
So, in my opinion, consider XF 27mm, and if you want brighter lens then 23 have to be your choice.
On the other hand if you like to be up close and personal ;) try something much wider. Fuji 10-24 is a great lens, and manual Samyang 10mm is a quality monster too. In Samyang you can set f/8 and forget about focusing at all - all you can see will be sharp :) - on the street in can save you precious seconds between good photo and no photo :)

Joost van Halm This is a hard question to answer. In my own experience almost every lens is ok for street photography. The only thing you have to think about is what kind of framing you want. Do you like candid shots of isolated people or do you want to shoot entire scenes. Today I was out with the 35 and I was amazed to how versatile it is on the street. You only have to get enough distance between you and your subject. I do like the 23 a lot. I don't have it as a separate lens, insides I do have an X100. Every single time I put it to my eye it is incredible to sea how much I like the framing. Now for portraiture, this is an entirely different thing. I do use and like the 35 for this as long as I don't do headshot. A 53mm (35mm equivalent) just isn't my thing for headshot. If this is wat you want to do get a 56mm or if that is to expensive get the 60mm macro. For good headshot's the best 35mm equivalent is 85mm or above. As much as I like the 27mm pancake lens when it comes to size, I immediately traded it in for the 35mm (the 27 came with the deal for free). On a Fuji I really need to have the aperture ring available. Aperture is the single most used adjustment I make to invluence the type of picture I want to make (followed by shutter speed). The 35mm is a beast and would be my only lens if I had to choose just one lens. Good luck in choosing!

Kadir Avci Thanks for answers @Marcin and @Joost.
First I'm gonna try 27mm. I will go to Fuji workshop this weekend to try those 3 lens and decide which one is fit for me.

Joost van Halm That's a very good way to find out! Have a good time.

Kazzi There is no better answer for a question like this than "take your camera, go to the store and try" - and I work in a cameras store for over five years, so You can trust me on that ;D
