Problem with M.Zuiko 75mm
Dear Tokapicers, I know that many of You are using Olympus system. I think that I have a problem with my camera or lens. During today’s walk with falmily I noticed that when I put on my M.Zuiko 75mm lens it works strnage for me. Especially I want to ask users of Olympus OMD E-M1 (but everyone can help) – in my case when lens is conected to body and camera is ON the aperture of the lens is closed to some number f/8 maybe f/11 I don’t konw excactly – in my opinion it should be wide open to max f/1.8 – did You noticed something like that? Of course function of permanent focusing is OFF. It’s very annoying me, because when I looking through viewfinder and push the shutter to the half, image becomes brighter immediately and it’s audible sound of opeining aperture to max. It’s not first time when I noticed this strange work of lens, some time ago I wrote to Olympus and describe hole situation then someone answered that I should upgrade software of the lens and camera to the newest version – ok, I did it and problem subsided. Now it’s back – what do You think I should do? The camera is on varainty yet – so should I send it to service or this is normal situation?

Piotr Yes I'm sure that I'm not shooting in shutter priority in 90% I'm using aperture priority. You don't understand maybe because I don't explain it enough - when You choose the value of aperture for example f/5.6 - is the lens closing to this value before You take the picture? no - it's still wide open, only when You press the shutter it's closing to value You selected before. In my case when I look in to the lens I can see that the aperture is closed to some value - it doesn't metter what value I selected on the screen, before You take photo aperture should be wide open.
Paweł Kadysz No, it actually should not. It should be at what you've selected. If you're shooting in aperture priority and selected f/5.6 it should stay on f/5.6 no matter what.
Ian Prince Mmm, does it happen with other lenses? Maybe the depth of field preview is set to 'on'?
Piotr I think the problem is with prime lenses. I noticed that the same is with M.Zuiko 60mm but not with M.Zuiko 12-40. Where is this option 'depth of field preview'?
Ian Prince Well I don't have an e-m1, but try the cog > d menu >aperture lock. Or maybe try a reset: camera 1 > second item
Kazzi Hey Piotr! I think I know what's the deal. It's not a problem, it's just how Olympus cameras work - since You have your viewfinder/screen on, the camera closes the aperture in brighter lightning conditions just to keep the image well-lit, and when You press the shutter button - it opens the aperture for the autofocus system to work with most light your lens can gather.
Piotr Hey Kazziz! Thanks a lot, I think You're right, during yesterday's walk was very bright light conditions there was some snow and full of sun. Lens behavior, was exactly You describe, I heard before that Olympus cameras work like that, but it was a little strange for me, because I was using DSLR system earlier.
Satoshi T When Aperture Lock is ON with Menu-D2-preview setting, the operation of the Preview button changes to toggle. You can restore normal operation to set Preview setting to Preview lock OFF.

Paweł Kadysz Are you sure you're not shooting in shutter priority? And also, you said that the aperture is f/8 or f/11 but you don't know exactly - why is that you don't know? Can't you just check on the camera screen?
