Focal length converter

Focal length converter
This little tool converts focal lengths on differen sensor sizes....
codepen.io

Another little tool built on my way to become a developer. A very basic focal length converter. Might be helpful if you're looking for new lens.

If you have ideas for any photography tools like this - let me know - I'd be happy to practice coding and build a useful tool for you in the same time.

jkuba The converter works somehow counterintuitive for me.
"Enter the focal length in any of the fields below and get the equivalent for the full frame sensor as well as all the rest of the sensor sizes."
When i enter 50 mm for Micro 4/3, the Full Frame box shows 25 mm, which is clearly not its "equivalent for the full frame sensor" (that would be 100 mm). I get that it tries to show how would FF 50 mm lens behave, mounted on M4/3 camera for example, it is just a bit confusing.

Paweł Kadysz Lenses are marked with full frame focal lenghts (not equivalents). So if you buy a 35mm lens for M4/3 it says "35mm" (full frame) on it, not "70mm". The converter works similar. That's why the full frame box is in different color.

If you enter "100mm" for M4/3 it shows you in the "Full frame" field what kind of lens you need to buy to get the 100mm focal length on your M4/3.

Ian Prince Mmm, I hear what you're saying, but it's counter-intuitive for me also.

Maybe because I'm old-school and think in full-frame "35mm film" equivalents. If I enter a "nifty 50" in the full-frame box, I'd except to get 25mm for four-thirds, i.e if I want a nifty-fifty, I'd need to get a 25mm four-thirds lens, and not a 100mm.

That said, I'm impressed with your coding skills :)

Ian Prince Like this for example:

Yeh, a big hack ;)

Kateli You're on every talk in tookapic ! Extraordinary ! And you understand everything that is said !! I don't ! :O(
Oh experience...

Gogi Golzman great idea for those who want to explore more =]

Alek Jedliński It would be great to have a lens and camera search similar to what is possible on flickr and pixelpeeper. And one tiny nitpick: there is actually more than one medium format size :)

Alek Jedliński I didn't :D thanks!
Although to have some kind of lens search would still be a great addition.

Ian Prince Yes, the lens info would be really cool. That and the post-processing software which is often also in the EXIF :)

Marcin It will be great if you will be able to add also what is the angle of view for each focal length. Too often it is calculated without any thinking and people imagine that when using very small sensor they can have tele with 25mm :) Perspective and distance "compression" is constants for each focal lenght.
