How to build and write a photographer resumé?

Hello Tookapic peeps!

After few years of hesitation, I finally decided to change my career and make photography a living. It's still a long way to go before being recognized as such and I have many things to learn and study, but to do so, I need to find some internships to get experiences. Therefore, my résumé needs to be redesigned and re-written since my current résumé is more business / marketing focused.

So, that's where I would like some tips and help from you guys: what should I write in this résumé? What should be the different sections? Should it be more graphic / designed or should I keep a classic résumé style?

Hope you can help!

Thanks, François

Phillip Flores I think rather than having a resume (in a document) you should create a website that showcases your photographs. Aside from a website you should have also a few printed copies that you can give to possible clients. I am sure that if you do a search for "starting a photography business" or something similar you will get sites that may give you some ideas on how to go about doing what you want to do. For example I came across this site: thebalancesmb.com/how-to-start.... Hope this helps.

François Artusse Hey Phillip ! Thank you very much for the answer. It does help me to understand where I should start, and a portfolio is definitely a better idea, but I also don't know how to start a portfolio when I don't really know what is my photography style yet.
It is definitely still blurry since there are many things to deal with and figure out but I need to get started at some point.

Phillip Flores I think you just have to try all kinds ie portrait, landscape, street scene, models, fashion, sports, wildlife, macro, etc. and find which one suits your style the best. I think that is why Tookapic is really good because it allows you to take all sorts of photos and share them.

Sometimes you do not need to settle on a style to start a portfolio which is just a showcase of your photos really. What you can do is to select some photos that you like and put them up in a website. It is never too late to start advertising and marketing.
