Hey everyone, So I have been kind of discouraged lately, and I feel like my pictures have steadily been declining. I'm running out of ideas, my motivation is running thin, and it seems that nobody likes my photos. Please, if you have any tips for me, please reply!

Shenandoah Hi Jesse, I went through something similar not too long ago tookapic.com/talks/88-getting-...
The good news is that I did pull out of it for a while. The bad news is that I've been feeling back in it again the past few days. I think it's just the nature of a project like this - the rest of life goes on and our motivation for this comes and goes. But the responses to my thread offered a lot of great suggestions. The best advice is really to just keep at it. You'll pull through at some point! And don't worry too much about the "likes" - in the end this is really a project for yourself, to explore new ideas and ways of doing things. Some will work out, some won't, but as long as you are learning it's all good, even if you produce some less than stellar work in the meantime. Plus, people around here may just have different tastes than you. Also I admit that for myself, I haven't had as much time to look at other's pics lately. A quick glance through at the end of the day, I pull out a couple of my favorites, but otherwise life is busy. It doesn't mean I don't like yours, it just means I have other things going on. I've noticed my views and likes have gone down lately, too, so I wouldn't be surprised if others are going through similar things. Also, I think the change that now shows the entire picture in the gallery instead of just thumbnails also reduced views - since people don't have to open it up to see the full image, and I think people were more likely to hit like when they had already opened the full pic. Don't let it get you down, just keep plugging away until you find your inspiration again.

Jesse Lind Thanks @Shenandoah, It's nice to have encouragement.

Bridget Braun I am still very new to tookapic, day 47, but I've gone through it too. I work from home so some days just getting out of the house is a big event. On the days when I'm feeling unmotivated, I force myself outside, I go for a walk or a drive. Some days I have a spot in mind to take photos but a lot of times I end up using a photo that was totally accidental or unplanned from just being out and about... Anyways, keep at it, your shots are great!

Paweł Kadysz It's the summer season, people don't spend as much time at home, in front of the screen. And that's a good thing. Just like @Shenandoah said, most of us now just take a quick glance at the homepage and like just few pics.

Also, we had some new users joining lately. That made the "Recent photos" tab a bit more busy. It's great news, but also means that we should now take the advantage of the "Following" tab to filter what we get in the tookapic feed.

As for the help, and tips... I'm just going to say that again. Keep going. Don't stop. If there's a week of streak pics - that's fine (my most liked photo was a streak pic). Remember that 365 project with one day missed is not exactly a 365 project.

Try something new. Ask a friend to model for you. Go to a place you've never been before. Or visit your favourite spot at the time you've never been there (middle of the night?). Get up before sunrise. Go to an event in your town and bring your camera. Play with long exposure. Or try to capture movement with fast shutter speeds. Join the weekly theme challenge (that helps, if you need an idea for a pic). Not just the current one, but get inspired by previous ones as well.

Jesse Lind Thanks for the encouragement and ideas @Paweł, you have saved the day again. :P

Fan Hi my friend , I think we took a picture not just for another like , maybe have our goal,or ideal? Don't forget your original mind!
Although I don't like all of my 365 photos, but when I trying to get any picture everyday, until now, I shot a lot of my best picture than all the year.

Do it,believe yourself! Your photo can tell you all the thing

Jesse Lind I know that, and thanks for commenting, but it's hard when sometimes you only get 1 or 2 or no likes.

agnieszka bladzik i feel the same recently. i have no ideas. going to the places in different hour doesn't help. Events are rare. friends don't have time as well. So from whole week there are about 2 photos I like. decrease in likes doesn't help as well. in fact it demotivates a lot. I only hope it will pass but for now i'm kind of frustrated with the project.

tania Motivation and demotivation, linked to that problem of likes question me a lot, regarding to all of your comments...
The system of likes is supposed to help, to encourage and it seems that after a few months on Tookapic it could show the other side of the coin. Have to think about it...

Julie Perry We all go through that one Jesse. Just accept you are not the only one feeling like that and it actually can be useful as after a time of demotivation you will find a spark again. Most professional photographers are happy if they take 5-7 good photographs a year so we at Tookapic are putting pressure on ourselves. Just keep going.
