daily project?

recently I noticed that there are some people on tookapic that use tookapic to just upload old photos, meaning ones that weren't taken today or the day before. I spot photos from the same photoshoot uploaded few times with gap of few days or weeks. the same model, make up, characterization even, the same clothes, place and light conditions. No exif data though. Streak is kept. No missed photo and everybody is happy. And it made me think is that honest approach? Weren't the idea of the site - one photo taken daily, not uploaded daily? It makes me think even more on the days when I get creative block and I'm trying to come up with idea for photo. And from 'tookapic talks' I know I'm not the only one who struggles every now and then with the same feelings of creative block. Should such photos be featured? maybe I'm bit of bitter. let me know what do you guys think

Paweł Kadysz I get more emails about this issue than about anything else. We can't really do anything about it. Sure, these projects are not really 365 projects. I think these users either don't get the idea or they just don't want to follow the rules.

But I always say to myself, hey - they're lying to themselves. Sure, they can tell their friends they've completed a 365 project, but deep down they would know, they haven't. That's not a pleasant feeling - lying to yourself.

There are dozens ways to "cheat" tookapic. But if you try - you're cheating yourself. You could post pics that you didn't take. You could steal photos from the web and post them on tookapic. And perhaps no one would even notice. And maybe you'd even get to 365/365. But you'd know.

Shenandoah Yeah, I don't get the point of cheating. The reason for a 365 project is to take a pic every day. If you aren't going to do that, why do a project at all? They can just post the pics they like online to a different site, and not game the system at all. -- That said, some pics might look like they're from the same shoot but really not be. I have a park across the street from me, and often walk over there around the same time each day (it's a nice after-work relaxation for me). So pics might look really similar, but have actually been taken on different days. Granted, if several things look the same, then it probably is a cheat. But if it just looks similar, maybe not.
In the end, it only really matters to the person doing the project. If they're going to cheat themselves, they're only hurting themselves.

Ian Prince Yeah, it's sad that a few don't really "get" the idea of tookapic as I feel they're missing out on a great opportunity to improve their photography and benefit from the fantastic supportive community we have here.

Like @Paweł say, I don't think there's much to be done for these exceptional cases, except for maybe not featuring "archival" photos.

Personally, if I start seeing photos that are clearly not taken each day I just unfollow so as to concentrate on viewing all those great daily photos :)

FlyteWizard I don't know about the pictures looking similar. I just went through my tookapic project and I have some favourite spots/location I like to photograph at. For example, my woven chairs outside my house on the deck. They make for an easy quick picture when I'm running out of time or have a boring day (my dogs and my computer and usually my models). I've even done a shot for 7 days with 7 different balloons and kept my camera and tripod in the same place. I don't think it's a really good indicator of cheating or honesty.

But each person has their own goals. It might be just upload everyday. They probably choose tookapic for the atmosphere.

agnieszka bladzik @dominique and @Shenandoah about the spot/location looking similar - I was not thinking about it. In fact I live by the sea. 10 minutes walk in fact. Sea is on 25% of my photos. But I walk there every time I have no idea. Because of this project I did more km walking than in whole my life I guess. When I have more than one good shot sometimes I try to go and do similar one on different day. And I think this is ok.

What I had in mind was photos from eg. photo-shoots. Where I don't think anybody will shoot the same photo-shoot with special characterization every 2 weeks just for 365 project.

I think this 'un-follow' approach of @Ian is the best idea.

Shenandoah No, I get it. That's why I said if too many things look similar, it probably is a cheat. I was just pointing out that similar pictures may not be for other readers who may not have thought about that. There have been a few times when I have actually chosen not to upload a picture that looks similar to one I took a few days before, specifically because of that very fear of someone thinking I was cheating.

Ian Prince For me at least, you don't have to worry about taking photos of the same place.

I even believe some famous landscape photographers return again and again to the favorites spots. My friend Bernard has over 1'000 photos of the tree in this photo : "The tree"

Bridget Braun This makes me feel a bit bitter too so you are not the only one! I feel like I'm trying so hard to come up with new and exciting ideas while others are trying to "appear" as though they are perfectly able to capture something new and beautiful everyday.. Anyways, I try to put it out of my mind and focus on my own creative outlets so that I know that I'm being true to myself, my creativity and my project :)
