Tookapic vacation mode?

Hey everyone! I have been thinking, and I thought some thoughts that I had never thought before and that I thought were pretty thoughtful.

Anyways, I think that tookapic should have a vacation mode. Basically, you could click a button, and your account would go into 'vacation mode'. What does that mean? Well... if you are going on a vacation where internet is not available to you for a few days or longer, you could push a button to make it so that you would not loose your streak.

For instance, I am going to Europe for 3 weeks in May, and I will probably not have access to the Internet every single day. I do not want to loose my streak multiple times, just because I can't find Internet even though I have a picture for that day.

How would it work? You will have a certain amount of 'time off' every year (maybe 4 or 5 weeks) and you will not loose your streak if you skip more that two days before uploading your photos.

So... what do you guys think? I hope I explained myself well enough for you to somewhat understand what I am trying to explain.

Please, I you have any questions about it please please please ask me!

Thanks so much for everyone's time! Jesse

Richard Morwood I agree, this would be a nice feature. I'm going camping for 3 days tomorrow and not expecting internet where I'll be, but will still be taking photos each day. I'm expecting to loose my streak, but will add the missing images after.

Grace Yep I went camping for 3 days and lost my streak too..

Paweł Kadysz We have Internet in Europe, don't worry :)

The vacation mode comes up every now end then. It sounds simple, but actually making it work is not that simple at all. I'll talk to the dev team to see if we can work something out.

Jesse Lind I'm not too worried about that, but I am going to a summer camp for 5 days, and no 'tech' is allowed(besides cameras of course:D). I don't mean AT ALL to add any work to your plate, I know you've gone through enough the past few months, but I just wanted to see what everyone else thought about it, and maybe, it would put on tookapic in the future :)

Ian Prince @Jesse. Like Pawel says we have decent 4G/LTE access all over Europe. With a pre-paid Europe-wide SIM card you should be set. For the past 3 months all my photos are post-processed on an iPad and uploaded over 4G (or wifi) so I can vouch that traveling and keeping the streak works :) Let all us Swiss tookapicers know if you're traveling through, would be fun to meet up!

Jesse Lind Yeees!!! I am going to Switzerland and will probably be staying in Bern, I'm not sure how far that is for you if we met in the middle or something!

Ian Prince Bern is a 90 minute train ride for most us. For me that's ok :)

Above The Line Offset the Vacation mode dev cost with Hero members only.

Jesse Lind OOOOH! Yessss!

Nilson Menezes It seems a good idea. An other idea is to be able to post your photos sending by mail from your mailbox to a specific mail address to your profile, subject of mail used as Titre and corpus of the message as description, attached file is the image. How about tags? I have no idea.

Ian Prince You could always add the tags afterwards:)

Bartłomiej Jacak Great idea! And I think it should also give us opportunity to add taken photos after vacations if we want :)

Paweł Kadysz You can do that. And actually the only thing you lose if you go without any uploads for more than 2 days is the streak. You can always fill those "missed days" after you come back.

Aaron Losing your streak removes a lot of motivation for some people - At least it has done for me. It's silly, but even if you've got the photos there and can see them, it looks like a mark against the effort.

Shenandoah If it helps, you can hide your streak number in your settings. Then you won't see it as a mark against you. I did that after I was in Africa for a couple weeks (NO internet where I was there, no cell service, nothing). I just filled in all my missed days after I got back, and hid my streak. Shows 365 days with 100% complete, and my summary shows that it took me 365 days to complete 365 pictures. No marks against me.

Ian Prince As the streak is being downplayed, maybe the streak could be redefined as the longest number of consecutive days since the start of the project....instead of the number of recent consecutive days.... Going from, say, a streak of 400 down to 1 is kind of painful ;)

Jennifer Faye I'm sure it will be difficult to do, but I think this is a great idea if possible in the future!

Terry Artt If you were able to do as you suggest Jesse your 'streak' would be worthless. A 'streak' is to take and post a pic every day. As you will not have posted on the day you have taken it why should you have

Terry Artt Sorry finger problems. ?..a streak. Why should someone have a holiday when other people are maintaining there streak whilst on holiday. By the way lost mine in the USA because I could not upload for 2 weeks but took pics everyday and uploaded on return home. Maintained the 365 pic a day. No misses as yet.
