Consistency

One of the challenges of a 365 project is finding consistency in one's photographs.

I've experimented by taking over 365 photographs in a row in landscape and cropped 3:4 (which I just stopped doing, but that's different subject).

Other's such as tookapic.com/rondadoo shoot exclusively in "Cinemascope", and tookapic.com/mgatton in black and white.

I'm sure I've missed plenty of you who have their own take on consistency. I'd love to read your thoughts and links to your photos on the subject :)

Satoshi T I found consistency of @My 's signature. She put signature casually in very nice position to blend into her pictures. I have found them as treasure hunting.

My Confetti Moon Thanks very much @Satoshi I try very hard to not let my signature distract from the image. Also admit it is fun to tuck it into the image itself sometimes. I appreciate you noticing & thoughtful words :)

jewels Wow! You're right! I love her pictures but never noticed it before! I will look for it now :-)

jewels As a matter of principle, I am not a very consistent person (quite the contrary actually)... For me, being consistent in posting every day is already a miracle, and I do like to explore different areas and styles :-D What I also like to do though are series, where I take the same subject a few days in a row, like sunflowers! I have a few of those planned for those long winter nights, but we'll see! A great serie is of course tookapic.com/ciceron and his round subjects and hidden logos (which I am never fast enough to recognize!)

tigg Ha! I always thought it a she!

jewels Maybe it is? Always thought it was a he ;-) The mystery goes on!

Ian Prince Ah yes, how could I forget Cicérøn! Now *that's* consistency for you.

Grace I've been trying to crop all mine 2:3 but some don't quite fit, like when I want to do a panorama. And at the start I didn't think about it at all so some are the wrong ratio

Michał Kubalczyk tookapic.com/klaudian is quite consistent in her overhead photos

Michael Gatton Thanks for the mention, Ian! I think specializing obviously helps, either in subject matter, color palette, light quality, etc. I don't think there's anything wrong with inconsistency either, but if you generalize or shoot lots of different ways, it might help to have a different consistent look for different kinds of shooting - like when creating galleries, tookapic.com/ianprince/galleri..., each gallery should have some internal consistency, as yours do. I know what I want my b&w pics to look like in terms of tonal range and I look for subjects in lighting situations where I can achieve that look - it doesn't always work out!

tigg I think it all depends on why you choose to take and post a photo a day. If, like me, you do this as a journal, then I believe to restrict yourself to one consistent 'theme' or 'style' may not work. If you are doing it merely as an art form, then I think I consistent style demonstrates real style and class.

Paweł Kadysz No consistency in my photography, but I kind of like the randomness. On the other hand I finally made a color grading preset I really like. I think me recent photos have a similar look & feel. It took me almost 3 years to get to it. Oh well.

bvphotosnap I would have to point out tookapic.com/radsatz consistent theme ending images are always creative and inspiring! Love the little kitty :) Great work @Satoshi!! :)

Satoshi T November of last year, I was upload a photo "Bye bye cat week" with the intention of a single pic. At that time, I didn't think to continue so long. Fortunately, I was able to continue up here. My little kitty and I appreciate you @bvphotosnap :)

Satoshi T about nice series, I enjoy tookapic.com/ericpatzer_0bbnyd... 's little car series and I remind tookapic.com/maciejgajos 's Walizka series. They have great consistency:)

Paweł Kadysz Oh yeah, @Eric is one of my favourites. I love the little car series. So creative!

Satoshi T about Consistency, I note tookapic.com/jaydee73 's style. He is using "key color" for each photograph, and he describes trees, river, boat and animals in fog using very very rich tone. I understand his work at a glance.

Ian Prince I had exactly the same thought :)
