We're working on a help center for tookapic. It'll be a searchable knowledge base with all the rules explained. Frequently asked questions answered. There will also be a getting started guide with all the definitions like "What's Streak and how does it work?"
And so I wanted to ask you all - once you signed up to tookapic - what was the most confusing thing you encountered? What, in your opinion, should be explained?
Paweł Kadysz Ok, this is already done. The help center should be live later this week.
Paweł Kadysz Got it up and running. The answer to your questions is available here: help.tookapic.com/hc/en-us/art...
tania I found explanations well enough to start. I still don't know if there is a way to know which of our photos have been downloaded.
Ian Prince OK, I've been giving this some thought ;)
How about some "edge cases"? Not sure they should be in the KB, but here goes anyways:
Q1. Can I change a photo past midnight of the day the photo was taken and what are the implications on the comments and the streak/missed numbers?
Q2. From my own account can I download one of my own photos if it's set to "Not available for free"?
Q3. If at some point I change a photo from "Available for free" to "Available for sale", what are the implications?
Paweł Kadysz These are great. I'll add these tomorrow. Thank you. If you have any ideas, let me know.
Ian Prince Two more (related I think):
Q1: What is the maximum photo size?
Q2: I get "Photo is taking too long to upload". What can I do?
Question 2 is actually a feature request I think ;) On my slow ADSL line at home (0.5Mb/s upload) I often get to 95% when I get that message with a 5-6Mb file. Would be cool if I could just "Complete the upload" for the last 10% instead of either a) praying to the internet gods for a little bit more bandwidth or b) going back to editing the photo and compressing the JPEG a little bit more and trying again.
agnieszka bladzik :) thanks
Grzegorz Namielski I've posted the same photo twice, how can i delete the second one?
Neil Livingstone Was going to start a separate thread but it didn't seem appropriate. I have one question, the numeric badge that is placed over our avatar... What does it represent?
Paweł Kadysz These are user levels. This is explained both in the Help Center: help.tookapic.com/hc/en-us/art... and in our Getting Started Guide: tookapic.com/getting-started
Neil Livingstone Thanks for the prompt reply. Didn't notice it in the getting started guide, but then again I did just skim it quickly. As for the help centre, I was not aware it existed until reading this thread... My mistake. Thanks for the help, you've built a great community. I'm very happy I came across this on HN!
Paweł Kadysz There's also a help widget in the bottom right corner. If you have any questions regarding the site, you can ask the staff directly ;)
Neil Livingstone Thanks for pointing that out, I will use that. Got a couple bugs to send your way. Thanks again for your help Pawel
Seth Is there a way to see which of your pictures have been downloaded and how many times? I see the total downloads in the Achievements section, but I'm just curious which of my pictures have been downloaded. Thanks!
Paweł Kadysz Here are your free photos: stock.tookapic.com/yumyumseth?... - click on the one and you'll see the download number.
Seth Awesome, thanks man!
Kevin Drum Someone replied to one of my comments on reddit with a question about licensing. I answered it to the best of my knowledge, but it might be nice to have some clarification in the help center (and maybe some additional license wording on photo pages for photos that aren't marked as free for download?).
Paweł Kadysz It's all there.

Chris Can I start by stating: I love this site!
My only difficulty is when to differentiate between 'talks', 'blogs' 'themes' 'suggestions' etc... when all I want to do is find out what the following week's theme is...ideally on a Sunday so I can think about it in advance for the Monday shot!
My basic request is, that although I follow on Facebook & Twitter...I often can only find out what the weekly theme is, easily, when I look to upload my Monday image by clicking on the theme box...I would love to find out earlier/easier!

Ian Prince Great idea for the newcomers, even if the UI is largely self-explanatory.
It's a long time ago now and some of the rules have changed since then. But I do remember being confused about the minimum size requirements for the photos, about how many photos I could upload in one go and how the streak worked.
Hope that helps.
