Other licences than CC0

Is there a way that we can have other free licenses than CC0 like the ones which allow for free use but not by giving away all rights to the picture?

Like any different allowing the use only when contacting the author or when attributed or free for non-commercial use etc?

Whenever I will be back on my daily project I would still like to share some of my photos for free but I would like to limit the transfer of the rights to the picture.

Side story: One of the photos from here which I set as CC0 was featured on some relatively small "photo per day" facebook fanpage. It got like 2200 likes and plenty of shares in few hours. I asked for a credit if possible but was totally dismissed. I know that it was their right as I shared it under CC0.

But if we treat this licence as a help (so he/she doesn't have to buy stock photos), a favour for someone else we could expect a bit in a return. Not money, not some extra gratitude.I did not demand anything exaggerated, just attribution which in my opinion should not be something impossible.

At the end it occurs that by sharing freely this photo we loose all the rights to it, even the right to attribution which in my opinion goes a bit to far in our CC0 licence

Paweł Kadysz This is the point of CC0 license. No attribution required.

There is another Creative Commons license with attribution required. But keep in mind that all the photos you've already published under CC0 are available under CC0 and changing the license to CCA will not require people who already downloaded your pics to suddenly sign them.

Second - changing how free photos are distributed on tookapic will require changing our licensing terms and the terms of use. This will generate additional costs (hiring a lawyer) and additional costs is the last thing we want now.

Additional licensing is not a priority for us now. We will think about changing it or even writing our own "Free" license in the future. Just not in the upcoming weeks.

Kamil Grzegorczyk Sure, I am aware that whatever was distributed with CC0 is CC0 forever and I cannot change it. There was Flickr case which actually was regarding similar issues.

Anyway - it is not a must have - it would be great to be able to pick from various licences we would like to apply to our photo.

Paweł Kadysz Yeah, a select field with licenses available is the only reasonable option, I think.

Jennifer Congratulations on such a positive response to your photo, first of all! I'm curious---could you link to it?

Maybe to get around this on tookapic you could turn off the free option and use your bio section on your profile to say that if anyone is interested in using a photo, they should leave a comment on the one they are requesting, and then you can work out terms on a case by case basis. Not perfect, but a work around for now at least.

Kamil Grzegorczyk @Jennifer Today the added credits which is good but honestly a bit too late. Of course I am aware that CC0 is CC0 but still few words of credits should not hurt anyone, especially if at our level we still seek for some "likes" and exposure to be motivated to learn more, to put this hobby to a higher level.

Kamil Grzegorczyk Well cooler and quicker idea is not to share with CC0 anymore ;)
