Given the nature of tookapic, and the 'pressure' of both taking and uploading a picture every day, what are your opinions on revisiting a shot? By that I mean you've taken a shot, but would consider taking the same shot in a better manner at some point.. Say, different lighting, making sure the focus is correct, or whatever you think you could have improved.
I do wonder. :)
Michael McKee I'm with tigg. Revisiting the same photo, especially if you are paying attention to what works or doesn't each time, is a great way to grow as a photographer.
Terry Artt I agree with Tigg and Michael, we all learn by our mistakes, so revisiting a shot with the desire to improve is a great way to learn. Also it is your project and you should do it in whatever suits you.
Emily Bell Go for it! I think it would be especially interesting if you then explained what you were trying to alter/perfect in the description.
FlyteWizard I've thought about it a few times. Most of my pictures are good on my standards, but there are a few that I absolutely hate. I would revisit them, but I usually just try to forget. I don't think it's bad or against the tookapic system.
Kevin Drum I've done it several times. Seeing improvement in your shots is a great way to motivate yourself. It's also good to look through the rejects that you didn't post on tookapic and revisit those.
M Sousa I do this all the time, I overanalyze my photographs...or anything really, and get frustrated with them. Like the knolling one... I found out many mistakes about it while developing it, next time I know what to look for and what to fix, and been thinking about doing it this weekend.
Joe Fortin I do this very often, but I find I need to be honest with myself. Am I doing it for legitimate learning/personal growth or am I doing because I'm being lazy.
(FYI: Being lazy is an acceptable answer. Long days, being ill, and live happening are all reason to maybe do something simple that you've done many times before)
Paulina M I think it's ok to do that. Sometimes when you are in a hurry to take a picture and you didn't notice some flaw at first - only to do so in post processing. That's frustrating. So you take the same picture without those flaws some other time :)

I have no issues with photos being revisited. The same shot at different times can show completely different things (a previously sunny landscape now dark and gloomy with a storm incoming for example).
Technically it's no different to taking 5 photos of your cat doing different things?
Plus people get busy or are limited on what they can shoot or where. I'd prefer something similar to what's been shot before than nothing at all.

I have a very visible reason for supporting taking the same shot at another time when you think you can improve it. I took this photo about a month into my first 365 project and as you can see, it's terrible quality, poorly framed, not well lit, etc.

Now if you look at this photo I took at the same event the next year, it's a LOT better (though still some room for improvement). "Not much has changed"
I love seeing these two photos because it helps me REALLY see how much I have improved since starting this project, and it feels great. I wish I could take on this year as well, but I'm in South Korea so that won't work. Still, I think it might even be worth it to set up a day each year for a particular shot, if possible.
Similarly, a personal challenge of taking a photo of the same thing for a week (or however long) can be interesting too as it allows you to look at things in new ways, or try out some different editing techniques.
Aaron That´s a good example of coming back to and improving on a shot, well done. Shame that you can´t commit this year, but it is a lot to stick to. :)
Jennifer Ooh, that typo changed a lot of the meaning of what I said! No, I'm still doing this year's project, and in fact I only have another month and half or so before I'm done with this 2nd year! I started on a random day, so my anniversay is a bit strange. I meant that I wish I could take ONE, meaning another photo of that soundboard during that event, but that event is happening in Maine, and I'm in South Korea, so that won't really work. ^.^
Marek Podstada I'm all for revisiting a same place, like you said even everyday use object in a different lightening or from a different perspective can be very interesting

tigg I think this is the way to learn, grow and develop.
