Tookacard

Just an idea for a new tookashop offering.

It came to me that having a physical bussinesss card referring to your tookapic account might be quite handy. I faced a strange situation some time ago while trying to capture a bus for the public transport theme. It happened on a bus stop, just after I left the bus. The driver was disturbed by me taking pictures in front of "his" bus and approached me with madness in his eyes. He shouted to me that he's a private person and if I want to complain for his driving it's not the right way. And so on... I let him spill his guts and explained the reason I'm taking the pictures. To support my story I've even offered that I can show him some of my published photos, but he wasn't interested. Finally he must have accepted that I'm kind of a harmless freak and he get back to the bus and his passengers. The pictures were poor and he wasn't even visible by the way.

But to the point. If I had a business card or anything that I could hand him, I guess it would end up better. I'm not a regular photographer so I didn't even bothered with that. But after the incident I'm thinking about ordering the cards for me and have them ready in my camera bag.

So, what do you think about an officia tookapic business card - the tookacard? In the shop we could have a few layouts ready to order. I imagine it would include a tookapic logo, an user name and a link to the profile (with QR code?). And maybe one sentence describing what tookapic is all about on the back.

Sure I can order such a card myself, but it would be nicer if I could have a professional design. Not to mention it might be yet another way to support tookapic :D

Paweł Kadysz Should this be a personal card that you only show to people or a set of cards (100-200?) that you give away? I actually do have tookapic cards (all in polish) that I can send you (I ordered too many). Send me a private message with your address and I'll send some your way.

This is actually a good idea for promoting tookapic. At least to try it. When I was in Prague few weeks ago there were literally hundreds of tourists taking photos not only with their phones, but with mirrorless cameras and DSLRs. If I had a 100 cards then (in english), I'd probably get rid of those in 10 minutes. Even if just 10 people signed up - that would be 1 user per minute.

A single, standard size (85x55mm) personal tookapic card in your native language, with your username, qr-code, invitation url & glossy finish would be around $10.

500 of those would be $30.

Some of you will be leaving for vacation, when there's a lot of tourists with their cameras. Perhaps that's a good idea for marketing stunt. If someone else is interested, we'll put those personalized cards on sale.

jazzie This is a great idea! But 500 cards would for sure be too many...

Paweł Kadysz I'll talk to the supplier and will try to get it down to 100-200.

jewels Sounds like a good idea :-) I agree with Jazzie that a couple hundreds would probably be enough.

Michał Exactly, my intention is to give it away as a personal card, but with tookapic brand. I've a vague idea to start taking portraits of strangers someday, similar to @One. It would be nice to hand in such a card to the person after taking the portrait :) But as @jazzie already expressesd it, I think it'd take too much time to give away 500 of those :)

Michał I've just got another option to promote tookapic. How about presenting the idea at TEDx? They are local and independent variations of TED talks/conferences which promote ideas worth spreading. I guess we all agree that tookapic can be counted as one :)

I'm not sure if you can just enroll as a speaker, but it must be manageable somehow ;)

jewels Wow! That's a fantastic idea!

jazzie By the way, also concerning the shop: If I knew what the ladies-t-shirt looks like, I'd probably have bought one already long time ago... Couldn't you change the pics of some of the shirts to the ladies version? Or am I just too stupid to find pictures of the ladies-version?

Magda Korzewska Jazzie it looks like this "Hello". It is rather oversized for Marysia, but this was the smallest size. I also use mine for more than year and this is still look ok. I am 40-42 size and bought xl.

jazzie Thank you for this information :)

Kateli They are a super feminine shape ! I love mine and am waiting for my second one any day now ! The neck is also a bit lower too !

jewels They look lovely and feminine! I love the shape of mine!

tigg Must admit I like my blipfoto cards I had done a few years ago, but rarely use them. Never seem to have them with me when I need one! I would certainly get some tookapic ones.

Ian Prince Michał, great idea these tookacards! Perfect to hand out when I restart my tookapic.com/ianprince/galleri...
