Since I’ve been on Tookapic I’ve been wondering what motivates someone to like a photo or not.
A photo could be liked because :
I wonder two things :
Might one of those options change the way we appreciate photos on Tookapic ?
JudithO That's the way I go as well, looking through all pictures under the recent tab that I have not yet seen and like the ones that I "like". Might be for different reasons at times: really good picture, interesting/unusual shot, nice to look at (at least my eyes) or really creative idea ... I can see how tastes are different and thereby not everyone will like the same pictures but that is what taste is and I guess if you get lots of likes it is because it is actually a really good picture ;). But as mentioned I think some views/likes might be skewed if you for example just check pictures of people you follow or the popular ones. These pictures will get more views and so more "likes" even though there might be a better picture from a newcomer/ someone with less followers. I try not to compare too much "likes" between pictures, if it's a good one you will get comments about it that might be worth more. But I would like to see the title on the preview (not sure why it went away) and not having the name might make you look at pictures you actually really like and not because you remember the name, so interesting idea! Still like the "like" option as otherwise I can see having lots of comments saying the same thing and you will get all these notifications ...
Bridget Braun I think it's really hard to articulate what one likes about the photos they like and I think you both (Kyle & Judith) summed it up really well here. Sometimes you just get a "feeling" from a pic. I also really miss seeing the titles right off the bat, I know for me, half the fun is naming my photos and I like to see what others name theirs as well! I like the "like" feature, because sometimes if I'm just doing a really quick viewing of pics, I'll like it so that i can go back later and really look at it and comment when I have more time.

Kyle Kokotajlo When I go through the photos for the day I select recent and just go through and try not to pay attention to the names and "like" the photos that speak to me. Maybe they remind me of my past in some way or are related to a current interest or appear to be well composed quality photos by my eye or even a particular editing style. The community is great on Tookapic but I find myself bothered at times when I feel like a person would get more attention just for the online persona than the quality of their pictures since I feel the the pictures are the mainstay of Tookapic. Honestly that is probably being a bit too nit picky for a social 365 project site but I agree with a different way for photo appreciation as you stated. We are all here to have fun and improve/learn at the very least.
