NEW: Big privacy related update on Tookapic

Starting today, you'll find two new options in the Account Privacy section in Preferences. First one is...

Private accounts

What does it mean?

That means that to follow your account a user has to be registered on Tookapic and request permission to follow you. You'll get notified about all new requests to follow. You can then accept or decline.

You can see all requests to follow your account in the window after clicking the number of followers on your profile.

Your current followers won't be affected. If they already follow your account and you switch to private - they'll still be able to see your photos.

The second thing is...

Allowing comments on your photos

In your account preferences you can now choose if people can or can not comment on your photos.

That will be the default setting. You can overwrite it anytime you upload a photo. In the usual upload window you'll get a new comment icon. Clicking it will switch the comments on or off for particular photo.

You can always edit your photo and switch the comments on or off anytime.

But wait, there's more...

Blocking users

By clicking the cog icon next to person's name on their profile you can now block them from seeing your activity on Tookapic. They won't be able to access your profile, even if your account is public (of course, then they just need to log out to see the profile as guest).

You can see a list of all the users you blocked here. And of course you can unblock them anytime.

That's it for now. Enjoy.

FlyteWizard Glad to see private accounts :) I think this is something a lot of us have been waiting for!

The comments update and blocking are also great additions :) Thank you (and all Tookapic Contributers) for all the hard work and time spent on the website.

elena51 Скажите пожалуйста, почему фотографии загружаются перевернутыми? Как их развернуть? Это случилось после обновления. Перевернулись даже давние фото.

Paweł Kadysz We'll be looking into it today.

Magda Korzewska yesterday I had a same problem when uploading SOOC from mobile. When I do small modification in Snapseed, it was ok.

Paweł Kadysz Yeah. New iOS takes photos in non-jpg format. Exporting the photo from snapseed makes it an actual jpg. We haven’t found the solution for that yet.

Daniel Borth try changing the format of photos from HEIF to Jpg then everything works, I had the same problem for a few days, or sending photos via airdrop to the computer also works or changing the format on the computer, but If You need to take them in HEIF then I don't have solution to this 🙂

Paweł Kadysz Your solutions work well, but you need to get into technical details or go deep inside your phone’s settings to do it. We’ll try converting HEIC to JPG on the fly,

Ian Prince Always nice to see new updates, thanks! Any reason why accounts can't be globally private, i.e. that only non-blocked logged-in followers can view your profile, like you can do on Instagram? Or am I missing something?

Paweł Kadysz That’s how it works. If your account is private, your photos won’t be visible for:
- guests (logged out viewers)
- users who’s follow request you haven’t approved (keep in mind that your current followers won’t be affected by the privacy change)
- blocked users

If you block someone, they won’t be able to see your photos even if your account is public. But then, they can just log out and see your photos as guest.

Additionally, since your followers keep the access to your photos even if you set your account to private, you can force unfollow the ones that you don’t want to show your photos to, without having to block them (blocking works both ways, once you block someone, you lose access to their gallery as well).

Ian Prince Ok but “... they can just log out and see your photos as guest“ isn’t really a private account. See what I mean?

Ian Prince Ok just tested temporarily making the account private... which seems to make the photos *not* visible as guest.... so I guess I’ve been misreading what you wrote...

bizon “... they can just log out and see your photos as guest“ relates to situation when you only block someone but you don't have a private account I guess

Ian Prince Ah yes, that’s probably the way I should have read it 😊

Paweł Kadysz Yes, you block a certain user. But if they log out - we don't know if that's the user you blocked so they still can see your photos, but can't interact with them in any way.

Kazzi I think Ian looked for an option where the non-tookapicers do not see the photos, bu all logged in users do - am I right, @Ian?

And from what I understood, making Your account private does exactly this, while all Your actual followers do not lose access to Your profile (unless You block them manually.

Is there an option to remove myself from being followed by somebody, without blocking and unlocking them back? Do blocked people have to follow again after You unlock them? :)

I've been using tookapic as my fully-public journal until now, but I understand having control over privacy could've been a great concern to many, especially about families and stuff.

Paweł Kadysz If you set your account to private you can then remove your followers manually (that’s what we call force unfollow). You don’t block them this way.

Kazzi I got it :) I just wonder, if blocking someone and then unblocking makes that person unfollow You. Asking because some time ago when You blocked someone on one of the portals, and then unlocked - that person was still your "friend" :)

Marek Szymczuk @Kazzi When you unblock someone, you won't automatically be friends again.
