Anybody here?
Hello everybody and hello @JarekB What are the plans for the future of Tookapic? Half a year ago I started my 7th year here full of hope that the community would be brought back to live and some fresh ideas would be introduced to Tookapic, but nothing happened and I feel how my motivation is decreasing from day to day. It feels like there are no more than a hand full of active users left and there's almost no more interaction between the 'last women and men standing'. I'm sad about this situation!

uglyphotos Tak, zgadzam się... Fajnie, że to miejsce nadal istnieje, ale zupełnie nic się tu nie dzieje... Liczyłam trochę na to, że np. będą jakieś konkursy, może testy sprzętu, jakiś rozwój, może ciekawe artykuły, coś do inspirowania się.
radzikmr Podpisuje się pod tym. Tutaj jest tak specyficzna społeczność, być możne obecnie nieliczna, ale jakże tolerancyjna i otwarta. Takich miejsc stroniących od komercji, od "lajków", od rywalizacji w zasadzie już nie ma. A to daje nieograniczoną przestrzeń do kontynuacji i stworzenia czegoś wyjątkowego.
leszek55 Hello Jazzie, I see it too and feel the same. We can enjoy the photos and our company, but there is a lack of new people, new ideas. A bit sad and sorry. After all, I will not disappear from here. :)
tigg I am certainly ending when I complete my current year, which will be about the end of August.

JarekB Hello Everybody. I know that it looks like everything is going very slowly. But, we have done a lot of work. Firstly there were formal changes, then financial performance improvement and accounting. Now we are trying to finish the last outstanding issues in IT maintenance - taking care of the service/app by a new people (with support from Pawel) and disconnecting all strings (technical) from Pawel's systems and accounts. Also support emails/tasks go still to Pawel (mentioned in another comment about monthly payment - I need to check it).
My colleague @wosikcyfrowe keeps on his toes from the 'admin' perspective, but - frankly speaking - we still learn how to handle tookapic. You may ask him about day-to-day things and problems.
Unfortunately, Pawel's last year's announcement that he would shut down the Tookapic had a huge negative impact on the community. Now we need to face the situation and rebuild it.
As a Cyfrowe.pl and like myself, we were busier last months and ever. Two weeks ago, we officially joined the European Imaging Group (EIG). So now, as a Europe wide organisation, we plan to support tookapic with "fresh blood", community incentives etc. EIG consist of WexPhotoVideo from the UK, CalumetPhoto from Germany, CameraNU from Nederlands and Cyfrowe.pl from Poland.
It is an excellent potential for tookapic to be presented to photo enthusiasts in these countries. That is a plan.
And finally, I plan to have a new strategy and task list for tookapic in two months. Promotion, app/website changes, if any, new integrations etc.
I am happy to answer all questions.
p.s. I had also problem with notifications from tookapic :-and I missed these Talks, I will fix it.
120mr Hi @JarekB, any news? You had wrote about a new strategy in two months... Three months ago. You asked us for patience six months ago, but there is no update at all. Even simple info 'we are working, nobody forgot about tookapic'. I still have hope but I feel that I'm lying to myself. Probably a lot of us feel the same.
crybaby I feel like we are on a sailboat, without captain, without purpose of journey and without any wind. In the middle of windless sea. It is very sad that Tookapic is dead in fact :(
JarekB Thank you for the reminder. Yes, that's true. Time flies. We were about to start, but there was a change in team members, so it is a delay. We will begin to communicate better in ... 3 weeks. We have determined a draft of goals and actions.
Do you think we should ask the users about what they need and want here or just look through the old 'Talks' topics for ideas? (like @marszy suggests)
Yes, I owe you better communication (thank you, @crybaby, for pointing it out). We will improve.
Hanna Gawrychowska dziwne pytania - czy pytać użytkowników czy sprawdzać stare pomysły - a może coś nowego, a może powrót do starych zwyczajów. Wydaje mi się, że kupując coś takiego jak tookapic chyba były jakieś plany, pomysły, zamiary. No chyba, że to był tylko "kaprys". Jestem tu już prawie 7 lat i przykro mi patrzeć jak tookapic umiera, degeneruje się. Czy nie zauważyłeś, że coraz więcej osób odchodzi nie znajdując tu dla siebie nic ciekawego, nic ekscytującego. Sama nie wiem czy warto zaczynać rok 8 ?
JarekB What is wrong with asking users about what new feature they would like the most to see on tookapic? of course, there are specific plans for the Tookapic, and I can make it happen, full stop. But I got used to running a company and asking customers and employees for their insights, ideas and feedback. It works.
Do you know what I see from the statistics? The major harm to tookapic was made by emailing all the users about the planned shutdown of the service and then putting a pop-up on the webpage with the same message. Now it will be much harder to reactivate it to its full potential, but I see a big chance for it and not only on Polish territory.
I will do my best. We will see.
jazzie I appreciate your questions and suggest you to open a new talk to ask what people want. I for myself know a feature I'd like and would be happy to tell it to you there!
Hanna Gawrychowska oczywiście, że nie ma nic dziwnego w pytaniu użytkowników bądź realizowaniu własnych pomysłów - dziwne jest, że pytasz czy pytać .. ale to bez znaczenia. Istotne jest, że od dłuższego czasu tookapic umiera a ludzie odchodzą - i tu jak widać brak jakichkolwiek pytań i odpowiedzi. Niektórym z nas pozostały wspomnienia jak tu kiedyś fajnie było - a było fajnie.
No i w zupełności zgadzam się z tym, że info o zamknięciu tookapic'a uczyniło wiele szkód.
Z ciekawością i niecierpliwością czekam na "dam z siebie wszystko" - trzymam kciuki za powodzenie i sukces tego projektu

I can speak only for myself, what I need are:
* New users ( we have only 5 users who has started project this year and still upload daily) not sure how many user (active users not only friends who looks for someone photos and give likes and favourits pictures) Tookapic has at the moment I assume 40-50 but I might be wrong. This is far too low to find inspiration, motivation, any kind of an interest.
* Tookapic on SM, it is nice to share, repost own pictures. Facebook and Instagram for Tookapic was dead even before Cyfrowe.PL takekover. It is free promotion as users will be happy to share their pictures. It can easily bring new users.
* Weekly themes, it should motivate and inspire users. Sorry to say, but theme „rabbit” in October seams a bit stranger to me.
Looking forward to hear if there is any chance to have this place much more full of life again? At the moment I have decided to quit my project again when back from my vacations, lost my faith that anything would change. Or maybe I am wrong?
agnieszka bladzik I lost my hope as well, NO SINGLE action since the tookapic was bought, nothing, with 8th b-day around the corner I would expect heavy marketing, some noise in SM about tookapic etc.
120mr @Magda , I completely agree with you. Your points are the necessary minimum. And the week theme thing is a whole new problem. 'Rabbit' is simply silly, why not lion or chicken? I don't understand the logic. But recently there were 'air travel' (only 17 pics!), royal (9!), gravity (17 pics too). The last one could be fun, but there were only a few examples. When you have no idea what to shoot good examles are everything. @JarekB Meanwhile you often choose only five pics, sometimes from one person... A lens series was nice, but organisation was very poor. First one had a good description, but the rest... I can understand that cyfrowe knows everything about sensors, but most of the people don't. Plus: do you know how many people here take only mobile pictures? I was truly obssesed with week themes, a few times I've done 7/7 WT pics, most of the times at least one pic. But now it's no fun. If you have problems with ideas - there is a thread with users ideas, from years ago or you can choose one of the old WT. How many of us remember 'numbers', for example?
Magda Korzewska Very good point. I have to add that there was mistake in sensor calculation in first WT as well. Micro 4/3 is just „half” of FF so 12 mm is not equivalent of 35 mm FF but 17mm.
ponzu As a platform it is still the best there is. As a community, obviously even at its heyday it was not as active as, say, Facebook or Instagram. Maybe things will get better for those who are in it for the community. I admit, it was fun to get likes and comments, but it was never enough to keep me addicted long enough to complete a single year.
I stopped by thinking I could restart my project. I have a new camera and lenses and believe only through daily exercise and experimentation will I get comfortable enough with the camera to be creative and succesful when I have actual shooting assignments and opportunities.
I found out that there have been changes. I can't tell yet if the changes are for the better in the long run. I don't know yet if the state of Tookapic will have any impact on my intent (I am not calling it determination) to restart my project. To be honest, after I read this post and caught up on the recent developments, I did search Facebook for 365-themed groups and Instagram for 365-related tags. It's just not the same. Flickr would have been good if it had not changed hands and directions so many times. I will stop by Flickr and say hello to my old friends and groups. Then I'll come back here and see how you all are doing.
ponzu As a follow up, upon careful consideration, I think I like the way things were on Tookapic 2-3 years ago. Getting 30 likes and 2-3 comments from people who care and kind of know you is a pretty good deal. If we can get back to it, I will be happy to participate.

marszy I've mentioned it 5 years ago, and I still think it's a good idea.
What this website and this community needs is a mentor program. One, where new users can learn from the old ones. Is it photorgaphy in general, more advanced camera use, or specific theme (let's say I start a blog, which is common these days, and want to learn how to shoot dishes or street art).
You can develop it to photo courses, photo contests on demand (b2tookapic), freelancing, add some prize runs (You sell hardware after all). Add hardware market, beta testsm exclusives and so on.
To be honest, "what to do with tookapic" thread has been talked over many times, back when I was active user some years ago and there were a lot of very interesting ideas. Some still waiting on the todo list. There's a big potential in this community, would be a pity to let it vanish.
crybaby Hej @JarekB, chciałbym poruszyć jeszcze kwestię miesięcznej subskrypcji. Czy jest brana pod uwagę ewentualna korekta ceny? Obecna, czyli 29pln/msc została ustalona w czasach kiedy Tookapic miał dużo więcej funkcjonalności, dużo większą spłeczność itd. Wtedy ta cena wydawała się bardzo rozsądna. Obecnie myślę nad zrezygnowaniem z członkostwa właśnie dlatego, że za tą cenę otrzymuję bardzo niewiele . Myślę też, że to rodzi kolejny problem, czyli nowi potencjalni użytkownicy mogą być odstraszani właśnie przez próg cenowy. Rozumiem też że Tookapic ma swoje wydatki i potrzeby i musi na siebie zarabiać, dlatego rzucam to jako luźne pytanie
JarekB Dziękuję, przyjmuję sugestię. Przyznam, że wolałbym się skupić na samym serwisie a opłaty zostawić i poczekać aż zje je inflacja i nie podnosić ich. Jest to nowy wątek do sprawdzenia i zapiszę.
craig Sorry to see you leave Jazzie. It is really sad to see what is happening to Tookapic. I knew the site was haemorrhaging members so today I checked the members who "follow" my journal. I was shocked to see that of my 433 followers only around 30 are still active members. Not really surprising really as nothing has been done by way of improvement since Pawel said he was closing it down. Since then It seems to have been perpetual limbo. I feel that the time is nearing for me to join you as I do not see any improvements coming fast.
tigg I have just added a comment on the thread from JarekB. You, I believe, are one of those people I admire above me in the longest streak table. Must have taken a while to work out the active users on your followers.

craig It did take a while although the 30 were familiar names. I was really shocked though that some I have followed from the outset were away.
