What's your 2018 photography resolution?

If you're new to Tookapic, your resolution is probably to complete the 365 project. What about the rest of you? The long-time Tookapicers and experienced photographers?

Do you have any photography related resolutions for 2018?

I want to take more portraits of my family and friends. Maybe do a series like Ian did just not day by day.

Besides that I want to make more time for photography in my life. Since January 1st I'm doing my best to change how I manage my time. And two weeks in I can tell that it definitely improved. Now I just need to fit 30-45 minutes of photography time in my schedule.

And last but not least I want to go a whole year without buing photography gear. I have more than enough lenses, cameras, filters and light modifiers :P

So... what's your resolution?

356. Take photos

ponzu Is a resolution something that you would like to do, or sometimes you will be really mad at yourself and consider yourself a failure for not accomplishing? I have many ideas of the first kind, but I don't dare make any commitments of the second kind. New Year's resolution have become a punchline to a joke about breaking them. I don't want o be a joke, even to myself. I will think very carefully about responding.

Magda Korzewska I would like to save some time thanks to using camera in my mobile phone and PP app (weekdays) I definitely spend too much time here. This week it works quite ok. Continiue photography education. Go for photo walk with @Ewa. Organize small event/exhibition for my 1000' s photo. No idea how, where yet.

Ewa Kudlaty It's honor to me <3 <3 <3

Magda Korzewska I believe we can make it one day. It was so close already a couple of times.

vera Yes!and don't be afraid to take photos of unkown people!

365 Shades of Calvados Which dog photography course are you attending? Last year I took part in two courses by Nikon Academy, especially Masterclass Workshop was an eye-opener. Good luck to you!

Marcin K. So..., I started taking photos of nationality rooms in Cathedral of Learning (one of the university buildings) - tookapic.com/diw/galleries/929... . The architecture of each room (classroom) is inspired by architecture of different countries. I would like to take a photo of most of them. The problem is, that I was unable to capture all the important parts of the room (narrow-angle lens).

I already bought fisheye lens. I wish it will help to achive the goal.

Dan Mundy Thanks from me too, great links :)

Marta Tomaszewska 1. do not leave any unprocessed photos from trips and events more than 2 months ;-)
2. finish 365
3. make series of autoportraits of which I was thinking many years (that's why I have organized "studio" at home)

Paweł Kadysz 1. is impossible. I've tried many times :P

Marta Tomaszewska It was a time when I've even developed films at home without big delay... ;-) Impossible is nothing, when you want you find the way, if not - you find excuses, and so on and so on.... :D

Paweł Kadysz Wise words.

Marta Tomaszewska "If you want something badly enough, you make arrangements. If you don't want it badly enough, you make excuses." // Hanif Kureishi

ponzu Technically, it's doable. Read Chris Marquardt's eBook 1hour1000pics.com (don't be afraid to sign up for the mailing list as a payment for the book that used be for sale and now is being given away free; Chris does not spam you, and the book is well worth it). What is harder is the discipline. If that's what you mean by "impossible", it's a comment about your lack of discipline. I am the same way. Plus I fall asleep culling photos. It's just the way my body works. If I want to process each day's photos that day, I cannot take 1000 photos, or 500 photos. 200 seems to be my limit if I want to stay awake.

agnieszka bladzik i always do that straight away after coming back

Marta Tomaszewska It's ok, unless you go on another trip just after coming back :D

agnieszka bladzik i would love to ;)

Marta Tomaszewska Life is an art of choices - either you have no postponed post-processing, or you travel a lot ;-)

agnieszka bladzik i wish that was my only choice, still travel is my first choice, so if you ever need companion just let me know :D

Rafal At least three big (more than 2 days) photo expeditions. One is already scheduled on July

tigg Any photo expedition sounds exciting to me!

Anne I'd like to do more portraits, definetely. But I also would like to learn how to model and have an opportunity to use it. I think I need tripod, so maybe if I had money, I should buy one, cause it's often hard to set camera in right place to do self portrait.
Probably these are not strictly photography resolution, but somehow connected.
And, very important- learn more about manual mode, because I'm still quite ignorant. What's more I'd like to do photo manipulations more often, I started it this december and I loved it, so I want to do it so much better and more :)

Anne Ugh, I hate the last sentence, three times I used "more" :/

ponzu 1. Take fewer photos
2. Share more photos

Kazzi 1. Write a blog with my thoughts, photos that didn't make it to tookapic etc. It's on, it will be in Polish, it will start... when I find time for it (which most likely means someday at 4 a.m.) - I'm writing my first post for three days now.
2. Start a fanpage of "name surname photography", that will be most likely blog mentioned above, copied to facebook. People don't like reading, and if they do - they do it on facebook, nobody wants to click links to external sites. Well, I don't. How do You find it?
3. Write some posts for tookapic blog, that I'm waiting for since tookabirthday - and from the lack of it came the idea above
4. Earn some money on photography. Sell some photos on Stock. Create an account on Shutterstock or something. Shoot hi-res photos.
5. Earn a lot of money from selling photography cameras. Well... oh, I'll write more about it under tomorrow's photo.

Gogi Golzman photography related resolutions? hmmmm
1. make more portraits of my beloved ...
2. make more progress with my style.. i love my line but i'm a perfectionist .. there is more work.
3. build in my photography to the world.
4. start to finally travel. its been a while.. i work to much =[

Magda Parkitna More walking and traveling with camera and of course take photos;-))), less taking pictures at home.

Hanna Gawrychowska 1. get to know my camera
2. learn to take good photos
3. more pictures outside my garden

(and my little non-photographic dream - pass the PT exam with Amber)

Daniel Zaleski You have a lovely garden and you take great photos there.

craig I agree!

Darek Antkowiak I am going to improve my skills in experimental photography - infrared, welding glass, etc. The only thing I need is time and health. The rest to get. I keep my fingers crossed for your plans :)

Artur Łobocki My resolution for this year is to create a wall with photos from my instax camera. Literally making the whole wall in my room with hung photos in the sizes of 6.2 x 9.9 cm.

Ewa Kudlaty @Artur it's beautiful resolution! I keep fingers crrosed.

ponzu My wish for you is to take photos of your progress, say, once a month, and post them to Tookapic!

Ewa Kudlaty Make photo albums with photos of my daughter

Daniel Zaleski Organizing my time better and be able and effective in walking through the countryside with my camera (last two years were nearly a nightmare for me). Shooting more portraits, preferrably on film. Shooting weekly on my film cameras. And most of all - MAKING PRINTS (smaller or bigger individual prints, photobooks and enlarging selected negatives on big big paper - for my friends = my models, and my family). It would be glad if I could make it.

vera To be less greedy ... in photography!
I like to try many different things and it takes me a lot of time. So I would like to go deeper, concentrate my efforts and improve the quality of my photos. I think espacially about portraits.
Now I feel like exploring from all sides. It's good too, but sometimes I think it's good to focus on something longer and have an artistic guideline.

In this idea, why not find an opportunity to show my work in an exhibition and have this point of view in my mind, a project in my town? It's just an idea, a wish, but perhaps not possible this year?...

I bought Lightroom at the end of december ... So I'm working to learn it and I'm thinking about Photoshop.

tania Little exhibition starting on 17th March.... in my town. I'm so so scared 😳

vera And visit more exhibitions! I won't miss Tania's exhibition!!!😉

bistronomia More B&W pics.

Darlene K Take photos everyday, Explore all areas of photography (Landscapes, portraits, self portraits, still life, product, animal, nature... skies the limit)

NatZ Learn the basics of photography. Complete my first 365 project.

jewels I don't like resolutions, so none for me... In general, what I am aiming for is finding my own unique style - whatever that is :-)

Dan Mundy - Take more photos of the important adults in my life, ie not *just* taking photos of the kids. Being more confident to take photos is part of this.

- Make small collections out of my photos. Kind of like the "seeing in sixes" projects that I heard about on the LensWork podcast. I've set up a bunch of collections in LightRoom, eg "Sax and Rory 2018" (my son and daughter) and the aim is to select just the six best photos that fit the theme. I have one set up for my "6 best portraits" etc. Being on 6 seems less daunting, and should help me to actually *do* something with all of the photos I take, instead of just letting them sit on the hard drive. 6 is a good number to share on Facebook, print for a collage, make into a portfolio, etc.

- I also want to get better at sharing with family in a timely manner. My aim is that when a new month starts, I go through the previous month and finish the selection process, publish them to a shared folder on my website, and then share the link with all of the important people in my life either through email or Facebook
