The new blog should be ready by the end of the week. We're integrating it with tookapic comments. Here's a sneak peek. But that's not what I wanted to talk about.
We're looking for people to write on the blog. You are all extremely creative and I'm sure some of you are as good in writin as in taking photos.
Anything related to photography. Don't worry if you think you're just an amateur. We all are. Tookapic IS for amateurs, and so it is the blog.
We can't offer cash, since we're not currently making money on tookapic. The income barely covers the hosting costs. But we can send you a t-shirt. Besides that - it's a great way to give back to the community. Share your knowledge. Learn by teaching.
I prepared a short form to fill for anyone who is interested. Fill it out, and I'll get back to you asap.
If you have any questions or suggestions, let me know in the comments.
Cheers!
Paweł Kadysz This should not be a problem. We'll correct your blog post before publishing.
Paulina M Maybe I could help. I really like looking for some inspiring photos and tutorials. How often would you like us to write something?
Paweł Kadysz I don't want to put you on schedule. Whenever you have an article idea, just write it and send it over. I'm probably going to create a closed group for tookapic writers to discuss the topics, etc.
Paulina M Closed group sounds good, this can be very useful when brainstorming for ideas.
Alek Jedliński Just wanted to say it's a great idea :) A more active blog could be useful in promoting tookapic to newcomers.
Jesse Lind I really love this idea and, like @Alek said, I think it would really benefit the new tookapic community. I would love to write a few posts :)
Paweł Kadysz Of course. We're not building an editorial office here :) I can't ask you to write regularly, since as mentioned in the post there is no salary included. One post is would be great.
Piotr Daniel I definitely like the idea! Maybe at some point I would be able to commit and write something, but right now I am a total newbie when it comes to photography and my knowledge is close to none :) But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this idea to work! It would definitely be nice to read some articles written for amateurs by amateurs. ;)
Magda Korzewska I have an idea for travel guide series. I will have Long holidays in March in interesting place. If You like an idea can try to write.
Katarzyna Wielochowska I would love to see your guide and read about your photo tips :)
Jennifer My application is already submitted. :) I would also be excited to do a bit more of the editing side. People with more experience than I may have more to contribute in terms of tutorials and reviews and things, but I am quite good with improving style in writing to make it sound smoother and more interesting. Of course, spelling and grammar are always checked as well. I would love to help out in that way if possible.
Jennifer Example: Pawel, you said in this post that we might be as good in "writin," rather than writing. These are things I would catch. ;) (Though I'm sure you weren't as concerned about having every detail correct for our little forum post!)
Jesse Lind I nominate @Krzysztof for a tutorial, 'how to take amazing food photos that will make you hungry any time of day' :D (it's true)
tania Haha... true
Krzysztof Puszczyński I'm blushing ;) But let's be serious, i'm a weak tutor ;)
Satoshi T I interesting in lighting. Sometime I discuss with someone on a photo's comment field each other. but I think it is limited with words. I want to share know-how with short sentence and simple figure or picture.
Satoshi T but English is not my language and I am no self-confidence enough to "consistent article" on blog X).
Richard Morwood If you wrote them Satoshi, I would be quite happy to proof-read and help enhance your English.
Ana I think that I would be great to create sections in many different languages in Japanese, French, Spanish etc.
Satoshi T You says good thing ana. People who can translate the interesting blog into their native language!
Ian Prince Great idea to open the blog to the community. I've seen how taking a photo every day has helped me improve, so who knows, maybe I'll find there's a writer in me after all.
tania Maybe. I can teach you !
Paweł Kadysz Everyone who filled the form should get the invitation to the private Facebook group.
Katarzyna Wielochowska @agnieszka could write a serie how to hunt and shoot a perfect staircase :)
Paweł Kadysz True. @Ian could join :P
Katarzyna Wielochowska I could interview some great photographers which I found on took a pic :)
Ian Prince Would be nice to be able to "like" blog articles :)
Jesse Lind I could do a tutorial on splash photography ;) I also have a question, do you have to write the titles of three blog posts and then later you have to write them, or are they just ideas?
Jennifer I think it's to get an idea of what you might write about, and to make sure that you *have* some ideas haha. I've written up two of the ideas for articles that I submitted, but forgot the third one I had. Personally I'd love a tutorial on splash photos because they seem difficult and I have no idea where to start with them.
Jesse Lind I am kind of lacking inspiration in my life right now, not just in photography, so I think I am going to put it off a little bit until I, hopefully, regain it.
Jennifer I'm sorry to hear that. We all get into a rut every now and then, but you'll pull out of it eventually. Hang in there. :)
Jesse Lind Thanks for the encouragement :)
Hanna Gawrychowska
@Jesse
it's nice to meet you again
MorryJooh Photography I would love to be, i am a blogger already. Check my blogs morryjooh.blogspot.com although am a starter
Paweł Kadysz Just a bump. Anyone up for a regular weekly article about photography?
Ian Prince I find writing much more difficult than taking photographs. But, hey, maybe I could take up a new challenge ;)
tania Yeah 😉
MyNeverEndingStory Hi, I would love to part part in it. I am a trained teacher and translator and I could give a hand at proofreading/correcting/ editing if needed :)
ponzu So, there used to be a Tookapic blog, and I did not miss it by much... It's different from an individual blog that I am considering proposing, but it would have been interesting to participate in it.
Kazzi I wonder if You realize, but You dug out a talk from feb 2016 and... since the form still works, look, how our community rose up to support the website :)
vera What a good idea! I would love to read your blog posts guys! And who knows, perhaps to write one... ??? I don't feel competent enough in photography and in english either. I feel like doing everything at the feeling! 🤨 The only idea that comes right now is : "My tips for how to continue your 365 project when you have no idea!". A kind of idea box, psychological support for desperate tookapicers ... like when you have to cook twice a day and you have no more ideas ... You feel empty and uninspired! There is always a quick recipe that saves! Do you think it would be something interesting ? or expected?
ponzu Well, the current Talks allows anyone to post any tips, ideas, etc., and could be a great place for what you want to talk about. What @Paweł had in mind 1-2 years ago was a Tookapic blog, something that would be the voice of Tookapic so to speak. That voice could be one person working closely with Pawel, or a small group, but it would not be open to all Tookapickers. That's what Talks is for.
If the call for Tookapic blog writers were to be renewed, I would be very curious to hear Pawel's thoughts on the delineation between the blog and Talks. Some examples of what belongs where.
Also, I am this close to asking for a new feature, which would be an individual blog. Something that's a lot like Talks, but belonging to each Tookapicker (who would wish to have one). Every time I start writing a proposal I stop myself and delete what I wrote because I know that Pawel does not want additional photos posted other than a photo a day, and because anyone can use his or her daily photo page as a blog post, as long as one is willing to post his or her additional photos elsewhere and link them. And when the daily photo page is not enough, one can always start or reply to a Talk.
If we list the methods of adding content to Tookapic as
1. Daily photo [existing]
2. Talks [existing]
3. Tookapic blog [proposed]
4. Personal blogs [proposed]
we should think of all the use cases and see why 1 or 2 don't solve them, but 3 or 4 would.
Not so long ago Pawel asked for what new features we wanted. I did not see blog (either centralized or personal) mentioned, and I don't know if Pawel is still collecting new ideas.
P.S. I found the Tookapic blog, last updated in June 2017 and since unlinked from the main page. It looks really nice.
vera The blog with articles existed on Tookapic! But I don't see it anymore... Am I wrong?
Ponzu I think that any subject can be treated in a blog. And then it's a question of choice. What kind of topic are we interested in for the blog posts?
What changes between talks and blog posts is : How you treat the subject, but it can be about the same theme. It's deeply different if you're in a talk or in a blog. In my opinion, the talk is more intuitive as a discussion. We share a question, an opinion or findings in the idea that can be discussed. While the blog will be more built and relevant in relation to skills, with real feature articles. For me you can treat the same theme, in a talk or in a blog, but in a different way.
Then I have a question about where are the limits of the choice of the themes for the blog posts?
Am I able to participate to it?
I think that in the purposes for the kind of blog posts quoted by Pawel in the top of this talk, I'm not competent... Or eventualy only for the "interviews with photographers", if my english is corrected😉.
Are the themes in link with our tookapics experiences also accepted for a blog post? But perhaps it's too early to determine that and we will see later... 😊
jokele The blog is still available blog.tookapic.com
vera Thank you Jokele! It's strange I have an access from my mobile, but not from the computer..,
jokele Hmm... works for me on different plattforms and browser here.
vera I looked for it several times again on my computer and I don't find it in any menu... 😩Boooh! Am I the only one in that case?
vividcolourfabric AFAIK, blog is only available though that link.
jokele I don't see the link in any menu as well, but got it from my bookmarks :)
Paweł Kadysz I was planning to shut down the blog completely and add rich text formatting to Talks, so anyone can share a "blog post". And then we'd feature those that are really cool ;)
So we'd have two types of Talks - regular ones like we have now and the second type - loaded with content blog-post-like talks.
That was my idea.
Kazzi It's one of those (few) features announced during #tookabirthday, that I can't wait to be a part of.
vera I'm not sure I understand very well what is "a rich text formatting to Talks". You mean that from the Talks, you can go to the blogs with links? and that sends you to the blogs?
ponzu I really like the blog so far, even if it is dormant now.
Paweł Kadysz That means you could add bold text, italics, lists, headlines, embed images as well as videos inside the Talk.
jokele I hope, you wont delete the blog articles. There are several good ones!
Krzysztof Maciejewski I would be happy to be a part of the project. Though I am not a skilled photographer, I earn my bread and butter with writing, editing and all that stuff. So I filled the form :-)
Phillip Flores Done. Signed up.
ponzu Look what I started. People read the OP and just go for it. All I wanted to do was to bump up this thread, which is two years old, to give context to what I may or may not request as a feature. One thing blog allows is posting multiple photos. I am talking about a personal blog, available to each member of Tookapic who opts in. Of course the "official" Tookapic blog is also a very attractive idea, as has been proven during the time when it was being updated. Great articles.
Karolina Oksiędzka Oh!!! I am interested in reading: D. However, I'm not a writing type...
Gogi Golzman I would love to write some tips and tutorials :)
Jennifer As always, I'm ready for this. Whether writing or editing, I'm happy to help where I can! For those who are not totally confident with writing in English, feel free to reach out to me (or whomever else Pawel may end up having on the team for this) and I can go over it for any grammar tweaks or anything like that to make your writing polished and your ideas clear :)
PS - I'm an English teacher and love working with students who speak English as a second language so I'm quite accustomed to this and love it as well! ^.^

tania Very good idea ! I'd love to write... but English is not my language.... sorry !
